Christmas is the one time of year when you can decorate to your hearts content and it’s become very fashionable to decorate to a theme. In our stores at Preston and Ferntree Gully we’ve created display trees decorated around trend colours and well known Christmas stories. This years most popular and successful trees were Country Christmas, Winter Palace, and the Christmas Elves tree.
The Christmas Elves tree needs no explanation its festive colours and cheeky Elves greet customers as they enter the store. I started at the top with red and gold flowers later adding a flourish with red velvet leaves.
A wide velvet burgundy ribbon with a thinner gold mesh ribbon layered on top is looped throughout the tree from top to bottom. Decorative items like baubles are added to fill any gaps.
The tree at Ferntree Gully was decorated in the same fashion adding gift boxes and shiny red, green and gold finials, these are grouped together in threes. The Elves were added last and wired into the tree using floristry wire, they add personality and really bring the tree to life.

Our finished tree was great for photo opportunities when Santa visited at the weekends. The vibrant colours also made a colourful backdrop for festive family photos and matched Santa’s throne and archway. As a final touch I suspended hot air balloons around the top of the tree, a great way to highlight new product.
Miss Haberdash Hints
. Start with a minimal colour palette of 2-3 colours and introduce extra colours later.
. Secure large items into your tree with floristry wire.
. String a cluster of baubles together on floristry wire for extra impact.
